Rugby season has officially begun. We held our first practice this past Wednesday evening at Macken Park in North KC. Fifteen girls or so showed up which is more than I think I've seen at any practice. We have an amazing new coach, Keith and of course Franzy is helping us out again. They are both very experienced and quite effective coaches.
Practice entailed a good amount of running, over 50 push up and sit-ups, basic tackling drills, as well as ball handling. Keith is starting from the basics and teaching us the proper way to do certain techniques and how to win games. I'm very much for this approach since I am still a rookie and our previous coach didn't teach me much. Thankfully, I have the best teammates that are more than willing to help me.
Of course with Rugby comes many injuries and surprisingly enough I've already required my first cleat bruise. It's simply beautiful. Yes, I took a picture. On the bright side, I can now do at least 15 push-ups (the right way) in a row, at least 6 burpees, and I can run much faster and further. This is all due to Chrissy and her amazing yet tiring workouts.
I'm looking forward to this season. I have a feeling it's going to be great. If all goes well we will be considered a Division I team once again. Our first game is March 19th in Topeka, just a few weeks away!
